CBD Celebrity Brands
The CBD “green rush” shows no signs of slowing down. If celebrity endorsements are any barometer, famous people are still elbowing each other out of the way to jump on the brand-wagon. Retail shelves are sagging with overwhelming selection, which makes brand differentiation critical in this crowded marketplace. Who better than a familiar face to help products stand out? And what better way for celebrities to further monetize their images?
That’s what Willie Nelson, the Marley Family, Tommy Chong, and Snoop Dogg concluded years ago. Even former athletes, like Tour de France cyclist Floyd Landis, and convicted felons, like style-queen Martha Stewart, have their own brands. Heck, even boxer Mike Tyson, talk-show host Montel Williams, and one of the Kardashians (of course) are in on the game. New to the market in 2021, Just Live has the backing of elite athletes NBA star Klay Thompson, soccer star Alex Morgan, stuntman Travis Pastrana, and skateboarder Paul Rodriguez.
While semi-retired musicians, comedians, and lifestyle celebrities are well-represented in the growing number of celebrity CBD brands, currently active professional athletes have to date steered clear of the stigma (and drug testing) associated with cannabis. Just Live is breaking new promotional ground.
Just Live
This brand scored a major coup by securing the endorsement (and investment, presumably) of the largest concentration of celebrity athletes of any CBD brand. According to CEO Kevin Meehan, “It is our hope that the collective power of these athletes, with a combined social following of over 43 million, will strengthen consumer education around the CBD category.”
Just Live is organized around a simple tagline: “By Athletes, to Bring the Best Out of You.” The company’s initial lineup offers a wide range of products:
- CBD Topicals (Including both Pain Relief products and Freeze Therapy products)
- CBD Capsules
- CBD Gummies
- CBD Tinctures
- CBD Kits (Including products from each category)
The Marley Family – Lion X Wellness
The Marley family, meanwhile, was one of the first celebrity brands in cannabis. And now with Lion X Wellness, the Marleys have entered the CBD space, too. Given Bob Marley’s well-known fondness for the herb, it’s not surprising that the third generation of the family is diversifying its advocacy for the medical benefits of the cannabis plant.
Launched by Bob Marley’s grandson, former NFL player Nico Marley, Lion X Wellness is a CBD brand that blends the laid-back vibes of his grandfather with his own competitive edge. Nico used CBD products during his football career as a natural way to restore his body after the constant pounding elite-level football. He was inspired to bring the healing properties of the hemp plant to athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike.
Lion X is also more than just a “fitness brand.” In a world where the consequences of cannabis prohibition have disproportionately impacted people of color (POC), Lion X is proudly Black-owned and donates a portion of their sales to Garden of Eden, a non-profit that empowers women and youth.
Lion X Wellness has products for both elite athletes and general wellness enthusiasts. They offer a full slate of products designed to “Unleash Your Inner Lion.”
