IWC IW389103 Pilot’s Top Gun Chronograph Watch
Fans of Maverick or Goose will love IWC Schaffhausen’s latest creation – the Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Edition. Featuring a self-winding mechanism within an unusual ceramic case, the Pilot’s Watch is the perfect chronograph for the masters of the sky or those who aspire to be.
The Pilot’s Watch comes in a ceramic case that features the color of the sand. It’s a very different color styling, separating it from the usual blacks, whites, and silvers of steel. The sand-colored theme of the Pilot’s Watch is the result of a combination of metallic oxides and zirconium oxide. It matches well the renowned flying suits of the pilots and trainees of the US Navy Fighter Weapons School. One has to act fast, however, since there are only 600 of these Top Gun Edition Mojave Desert chronographs.
This mechanical pilot’s chronograph features the IWC 69380 Caliber movement complete with a bi-directional pawl-winding mechanism. This gives the Top Gun a power reserve that lasts up to 46 hours. It falls short of the 72 hours in some high-end Swiss mechanical chronographs, but it is still a worthy timepiece to have.
Both sides of the convex sapphire glass protecting the dial have anti-reflective coating. The glass itself secures well onto the case, protecting it against potential displacement secondary to a drop in air pressure. Chronograph functions are a standard. So is the date and day display. The face comes in dark brown, providing a subtle contrast to its sand-colored hands, numbers, and indices. The 21 mm-wide textile straps come in beige to complement the color of the rest of the Pilot’s Watch.
True to the design principles of conventional US Navy pilot’s gear, the IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Edition is a worthy piece of chronograph to strap onto the wrist of the modern man.
