If a good value handheld shower head with the hose is your next bathroom thing, then this simple chrome-plated beauty from AquaDance should be at the top of the list.
At 3.5 inches in diameter, AquaDance High-Pressure Handheld Shower Head is one of the smallest heads in our best shower head review, but size doesn’t seem to matter when it comes to its showering performance. The head has six different spray settings, so you can move from gentle tickle to a vigorous shower pat on your back with just a twist of the click dial, with virtually no drop in water pressure. The flexible hose pops out of the holder easily for when you need to rinse off or wash junior’s hair. 3Aqua Elegante 3 Inch High Pressure Shower Head
It may be compact and bijou, but with a decent 42 jet nozzles to blast out water, you get a fantastic pressured shower from this three-inch fixed shower head from the family-owned Aqua Elegante. Plus, with a removable flow restrictor, you can tweak the strength of the water flow to how you like it.
Made from robust ABS plastic, Aqua Elegante 3 Inch High-Pressure Shower Head may not have the real chrome of more expensive models, but the metal surface finish looks as good as. This does make it lightweight and perhaps not as tough, but for small spaces or everyday bathrooms, it’s a good shower head bet. And with the silicone jet nozzles, it is super easy to keep clean and limescale free. And finally, for the non-practical people amongst us (my hand goes straight up) it is a doddle to install, just twist on to your existing shower arm and off you go. Who said showering needed to be any more complicated?

4Sarlai Solid Square Adjustable Rain Shower Head
The designer look of Sarlai Solid Square Adjustable Rain Shower Head belies its less than $40 price, and the shower experience is reminiscent of an exotic spa. OK, we know you are not really in a tropical rainforest but you can be near as damn, right in your own bathroom.
The 12-inch square head is ultra-thin, and its impressive 196 nozzles mean you get a decent, full body water coverage, with an even waterfall pattern falling from across the head. It’s a tough dude too, made from 10-layered chrome plated finish and there are no fragile plastic parts, giving the adjustable arm reassuring robustness that you would expect on a much more expensive model. The nozzles are also relatively easy to unclog, just rub or squeeze the rubber nipples to remove any lime or sediment. There’s no adjusting the rainfall, but the sheer size of the head and the nice power of the spray makes a shower under this good-looker one of life’s simple pleasure.

6Briout Handheld High-Pressure Shower Head
The Briout Handheld High-Pressure Shower Head is a standard looking shower head with some really nice touches that elevates it to one of our best high-powered showers as it knows how to hit the right spot.
The round, flat 4.1-inch head design offers 47 self-cleaning thermoplastic nozzles, alongside 19 ABS nozzles to prevent mineral build-up and provide nicely powered water flow. You also get five functions via the click dial – power mist, power rain, rain massage, rain mist and (we particularly like this one) pulsating massage. The flow is suitably strong but if you want more, then the flow restrictor can also be removed to step up the power. Add in a chrome-plated, rust preventing shower head and the flexibility of a five feet stainless steel hose and you have an affordable hand-held shower head that will keep all the family (or housemates) happy.

7YOO.MEE High Pressure Handheld Shower Head
For a handheld shower head, the Yoo.Mee know how to put the pressure on, with a clever design that can ramp up even the lowest of pressures. While it may not always come up with the skin-scuffing water power some may like, as a high-pressure shower, the Yoo.Mee delivers a decent blast that will get you going in the morning, even if you are in a low-pressure area. It also comes with three spray functions to shake it up a little for when you’re in the mood. Choose from powerful shooting, pulse massage or a mix of the two and you will be buffed, massaged and good to go. And if the (water) pressure gets too much, simply dial it down with the adjustable head.
While the shower head is ABS coated plastic, the hose is made from durable stainless steel and the bracket adjustable so you can get it set up just as you want it. And once done, simply rub across the silicone rubber jet nozzles with your finger to keep it power cleaned. A good bet for those who fancy a massage as they shower or if you live in a low-pressure locale.

8Aquadance by HotelSpa Slimline Showerhead and Hand Shower
We do love a good combo at Instash and the Aquadance is no exception, with its double shower head styling and performance that will bring a dash of hotel spa to your bathroom. It may not be the most state of the art when it comes to its looks, but this chrome finish shower head/handheld combo is reassuringly familiar, with some nice shower experience twists.
With a fixed and hand head shower head, you can choose from 24 full and combined water flow patterns and five high power spray settings, taking you from the straight shower to power massage all at the click of the dial. There is also a water-saving pause mode and easy to maintain wipe-free rubber jets. Use the shower heads separately – the hand-held comes with a super-flexi five-foot hose to get to where you need it to be – or use them together for a mixed combo jet shower to soothe or wake up those muscles. Here’s a solid overhead rainfall shower head from household innovators SparkPod that gives a high-powered shower to douse and revive even the most work-weary of bodies. There’s certainly a high-end lux feel about this large shower head and the design is eye-catching and clean. But what we really like is the rainfall experience, with enough oomph behind the spray to give a full, lush shower you won’t want to step away from.
With 90 anti-clog nozzles consistently powering out the water, and a removable restrictor so you can pump up the flow, even more, SparkPod High-Pressure Rain Shower Head is one low maintenance shower head that has been designed to last and give you that exotic feel of being under a waterfall, time and time again.

10DreamSpa Ultra-Luxury Rainfall Shower Head/Handheld Combo
With an extra-large rainfall fixed shower head buddying up with its supersized handheld little bro, the DreamSpa goes big with this Ultra-Luxury Rainfall Shower Head/Handheld Combo. The result is a large shower headset that gives great coverage, whether you want a total overhead rainfall drenching or close-up, hot water pamper.
First the rainfall head: this chrome-finished shower head is an impressive nine inches, giving superior ‘downpour’ coverage with a reliable flow thanks to its rub-clean jets. And the adjustable arm enables you to position it straight above and over your head. Then there’s the hand-held: at 4.75 inches it’s the largest handheld in our review and has some attitude – high power, aeration or lux waterfall – letting you control the spray with an easy push of a button on its handle. And its super-flexible hose isn’t going to hold it back, meaning you can get to all those hard to reach places.

11Delta Faucet 2-in-1 Hand Held Shower Head
Small but perfectly formed, the high-tech Delta is the premium buy on our best shower head list, but boy does it have super shower ambitions. First up, it’s a double shower head, but on first look, you’d be forgiven for not believing us. The clever design has a detachable shower head magnetically locked into the center of the main shower head, which acts as both main powers drench spray and docking system. The whole shower head taps into Delta’s H2Okinetic system, which they say, sculpts the shower water into a unique wave pattern, giving you three times the coverage of a standard shower head. Now we like the sound of that. There are also five spray options to complete your spa shower experience – PowerDrench spray, full body spray, massaging spray, full body sprays with massage, and pause. With a flick of a switch, you can use the combined head or switch to either the outer ring or smaller detachable section for a variant in the spray.
Undock the handheld and you also have a mobile shower head with a five foot stainless steel hose for finishing your shower, cleaning the kids (or dog) or rinsing the bath. The only thing it doesn’t do is hold your towel.

12AquaDance 3-way Premium Rainfall Shower Combo
We like the distinctive look of the AquaDance Premium, that cleverly sets itself apart from other double shower heads. By putting the detachable hand held above the main fixed shower head, you get an awesome dual shower experience with its well-powered spray complementing the main spray without getting in the way.
The main rainfall shower head is a more than adequate seven inches, with a good range of mixed sized, rub clean jet nozzles. Used on its own, it has a lovely, well-balanced rainfall shower spray, with a click lever dial to adjust the water power. Double up with the handheld, you get an additional six spray settings, including power, pulsating massage, and mist, which you can switch between each head. Both heads are independently adjustable too, so you can tailor your shower position to whatever floats your boat. Used on its own, the decent-sized hand-held shower head can also more than hold its own, with good power and a flexible hose to rinse and close-up clean.

Shower Head Buying Guide
How We Chose Our Selection of The Best Shower Heads
We take our shower time seriously here at Instash, and nothing but the best shower heads to power blast us awake in the morning will do. So, when selecting the ultimate shower heads for our final list, we cleaned up on the following:
Brand – it is a tough market out there, with lots of brands competing for the top shower spot. We recognize brand quality but have also looked for overall value and performance, which has helped us whittle a long list down to our final thirteen.
Reviews –you don’t have to just take our word for it, we’ve also checked out feedback from other consumers to get a first-hand take on just how good these shower heads perform when the water is turned on.
Design – don’t forget, the shower head you finally choose has to fit with your bathroom and your own personal style choice. When factoring design into our review, we’ve focused on how well the shower head style works to make your showering experience a total hot water fest.
Price – most shower heads won’t break the bank unless you choose to go total high end. So, when it comes to price, we’ve also factored in the individual product’s quality and performance so you can see just how much you will be getting for your buck.
Features To Look For In Shower Heads
Spray settings - how your new shower head actually gets that water on to your back is an important feature consider, especially if there is more than just you living in your home. Whether you prefer a straight-up spray, a widespread rain shower, a water massage or something a bit more jet ‘powered’, there’s a shower head for you. But if you need to keep more than you happy, then a multi-spray adjustable shower head that can be adjusted to suit everyone’s showering preferences could well be the way to go.
Fixed v handheld – if you play it straight and just want to wash ‘n’ go, a fixed shower head is perfectly up to the job and, with decent water pressure, they will give you a good power shower experience. A handheld adjustable shower head gives you a little more flexibility as it has a removable hose to give you a little room for maneuver – great for rinsing off those stubborn suds, cleaning the bath out or washing the kids (or dogs). If you can’t choose, don’t worry, just opt for a double shower head unit that quite literally gives you the very best of both worlds. Plus, you can also choose a combo that means you can use both together at the same time, to double up your shower time pleasure.
Water flow rate – you need to be sure that your new shower head will hit the spot so check out the rate water will flow through it before you buy. The recommended showerhead flow rate is around 2.0 gallons per minute, which may not sound much if you like to feel the water pummel you awake but with the shower tech that’s now out there, you can use less water for a full-on shower experience. And that is a good thing. To keep things balanced, go for a shower head that has a pressure-compensating flow regulator so you can tailor the flow to match the water pressure in your home.
Ease of installation – most shower head models is fairly easy to install, making it a do-able DIY project if you fancy the task. Arm yourself with an adjustable wrench and the instruction manual and it should just be a case of replacing the old showerhead with the new. Anything more complicated and you can always go to Yellow Pages to find a skilled man who can.
Filtration – as well as getting the water pressure just right for a skin-tingler of a shower blast, you also want to protect against chlorine, scale and hard water which, depending on where you live, is an absolute essential. Not only can hard water and limescale clog your shower, but they can make your hair and skin feel dry and yukky. Look for a showerhead that includes a filter to fish out the bad stuff, or you can buy a filter to install. If there’s no filter, then check the nozzles to see how easy they are to clean. Chrome nozzles are easy to wipe clean if you do it after each shower or there are also silicone rubber nozzles that can also be squeezed to get the limescale mucky stuff out.
Types of Shower Heads
A shower head is just a shower head, right? Er, no…not when you take all the different types of shower heads available into consideration. At the end of the day it really is down to personal preference, but here are your basic options:
Single spray – does what it says on the box, a traditional shower head that covers most bases and is a standard in most bathrooms. The least expensive shower head, they can also be the smallest in diameter, but can also come with an adjustable nozzle to shake the spray pattern – and its intensity - up.
Double shower head – A handy user-friendly combo of a main fixed shower head and hand held shower head with a removable hose, you get two for the price of one with this double shower head set up. With many models, not only can you use them separately, but also combined at the same time for a double-shower effect.
Multiple - When the standard single setting shower head no longer cuts it, the multiple shower head has a multi-setting so you can choose from an array of spray options, from nice and gentle to hardcore massager, and everything in-between.
Rain shower head – these flat and usually square, large shower heads bring a fantastic ‘caught in the rain’ feeling to your bathroom. They can also be mounted overhead on the ceiling as well as from a wall. With a larger than normal surface area that spreads out the water pressure, you get a refreshing shower from the water as it drenches all your body, giving you that tropical rainstorm experience, wherever you are.
