Prep Steps For A Date
You’ve finally plucked up the courage to ask that girl you’ve been checking out for weeks and she said YES. So you plan to take her somewhere special and you’re hoping you’ll at least get a smile and a kiss goodnight.
Slow down a little. You want to leave a good impression, don’t you? Well, the first impression is the most important one so make sure you do prep with these steps for a date.
1. Make No Assumptions
The new steakhouse just opened in town and you thought this would be the perfect place for a first date. You’re most likely right, but what are you going to do if you pull up in front and your date suddenly declares she’s a vegetarian? YIKES! It’s Saturday night and you don’t have reservations for anywhere else.
Always suggest the place you’d like to take your date first, it may not just be a matter of food choices. There may be certain foods she needs to avoid due to allergies or food sensitive. That two-minute phone call or message to check can save you a world of grief on date night.
2. Check The Contents Of Your Wallet
This may seem like a no-brainer but there is nothing more embarrassing than having the waiter bring the bill and you have no cash in your wallet. While almost every restaurant, diner or store takes some form of card payment, there are some that still deal with cash only. Even if you and your date have decided to go Dutch, you still want to make sure you have enough to cover your own expenses.
3. Switch Your Phone To Vibrate Only
It may be trendy to sit in a restaurant or café and constantly be checking your social media accounts but your date may not appreciate all the attention being on your phone. Before you pick up or meet with your date, turn your phone to vibrate only, or better yet, set it to airplane mode. Pay attention to your date or it won’t be long before her attention shifts elsewhere too.
4. Get Your Hair Done
Girls aren’t the only ones that make appointments with hairstylists before a hot date. There’s no reason guys can’t have a perfect hairdo as well. Shaggy, unruly hair may look fine at the beach but it’s a bit of a stretch for a night on the town. If dandruff is a problem, treat it with the right dandruff shampoo during the week and make sure your hair is clean and nicely in place before you meet your date. Also, don’t overload on the styling products. A little bit of hair gel, hair clay or hair spray is fine to keep your hair in place, but you still want a bit of natural movement?
5. Get Plucking
Got a bit of overgrowth in your eyebrow region? Or worse, got nose hairs peeking out of your nostrils? Get a pair of tweezers and nose hair trimmers and remove the undesirable hairs fast. Getting rid of those few stray hairs between your eyebrows will actually give you two eyebrows instead of one and those coming out of your nose are very unattractive so get rid of them. It may hurt a little, but not as much as your date running for her door when you take her home at the end of the evening.
6. Beards Can Be Sexy
Yes, beards can be pretty hot and a lot of girls love the way they can make a guy look mysterious. Not so much if you have an unruly bush covering the bottom half of your face. You don’t necessarily need to show up to your date clean shaven but if you do have a beard, you need to trim it with a beard trimmer so it looks clean and tidy. Also if you prefer clean shaven, do this an hour or so before your date so that you don’t have stubble or the dreaded five o’clock shadow. Otherwise, if you’re lucky enough to get a goodnight kiss, you don’t want your date coming across cheeks that feel like sandpaper.
7. Go Home Smelly
Those are three words you don’t want to hear. You may not actually hear them but your date may be thinking them if your personal hygiene is brought into question. Make sure you have a shower before you head out and do not neglect the use of a good quality deodorant. No need to overdo the doe, but make sure you prevent any nasty emissions coming from your armpits. You can also dab on a bit of cologne but do so with finesse. You may want your date to swoon in your arms, but not from being overpowered by fumes. The other major no-no is neglecting your oral health. Bad breath is a major deal breaker in the dating game so grab your electric toothbrush and toothpaste for bad breath and give your choppers a good scrubbing and follow with minty mouthwash to complete the job.
8. Check Your Hands
OK0, so maybe you don’t want to come across as a complete metrosexual who spent more time grooming than your date. That may mean you don’t have your own personal manicurist but don’t show up on your date with gritty looking or overgrown fingernails. Make sure your hands and nails are clean and your nails clipped. Remove any gunk from under your nails if you’ve had a busy day working with dirt, machines or tools.
9. Comfortable And Classy Is Best
So you’ve taken care of all your grooming rituals and now it’s time to get dressed. Unless you’re going to a wedding or black tie event, jeans and a t-shirt or casual shirt are fine. These are usually super comfortable so you’ll feel confident too. Just make sure your clothes are cleaned and not wrinkled. The more comfortable you are, the more comfortable your date will feel too.
10. Enjoy Yourself
Yes, making your date feel special is important, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be a great experience for you too. Use the time to get to know your date and have some fun. Laughter is the best way for both of you to feel happy and relaxed so enjoy yourself.
